E2E integration: 1Finity FDD Tri-band RU and OCUDU

At i14y Lab Berlin, we’ve successfully completed an end-to-end O-RAN integration of the 1FINITY FDD Triband outdoor radio unit with the OCUDU O-CU/DU running on the NVIDIA DGX Spark (ARM64) and x86 platform and validated on B1 and B3 FDD bands.

A significant milestone for multi-vendor, interoperable Open RAN

We are delighted to announce these results because they are significant in the larger Open RAN context. It is a great step forward for multi-vendor, interoperable Open RAN to

  • Have a commercial FDD O-RU working with an open-source O-CU/DU stack.
  • Run the full RAN and core on a compact ARM64 platform, making it a strong fit for private 5G, edge AI, and research.

This achievement gives us a solid base for the next phase: Near-RT RIC / xApp integration and early 6G research. So your next steps will be a deeper performance characterization and RIC-driven use cases.

This was our test-setup:

  • UE: Samsung Galaxy S23 inside an Accuver shield box for a controlled RF environment, and Amarisoft UE Emulator (64 UE)
  • O-RU: 1FINITY FDD Triband O-RU (B1/B3), connected over Open Fronthaul (eCPRI)
  • O-CU/DU: OCUDU, running on the NVIDIA DGX Spark (ARM64) and x86 platform
  • 5G Core: Open5GS, co-hosted on the same ARM platform

Based on the scenario 4T4R FDD B1/B3, 20 MHz, 5G NR SA and the O-RAN.TIFG.TS.E2E-Test.0-R004, v07.00, our test could successfully verify

  • Radio Configuration via Mplane
  • UE Registration and PDU session establishment
  • Internet connectivity and data throughput validation

These great results would, of course, not have been possible without the support of the OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation and the Open5GS communities, the good collaboration with our partners at 1Finity and SRS, as well as our great team at the i14y Lab.
