i14y Lab Focus on Energy Efficiency and Multi-Vendor

O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2026 Successfully Concluded

The i14y Lab, supported by consortium members Deutsche Telekom, EANTC, and Fraunhofer HHI, successfully took part in the Spring 2026 PlugFest. The PlugFest was co-hosted by 13 operators, OTICs, and institutions in 9 labs worldwide.

O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2026 Successfully Concluded

This time around we focused our activities on

  • Multi-vendor IOT testing in E2E for improved repeatability and scalability of interoperability validation workflows for future O-RAN deployments and
  • Demonstrating an advanced Energy Saving (ES) solution within the O-RAN architecture via the O1 interface.

Successfully completed scenarios at the i14y Lab

End-to-End single cell FDD 1Finity O-RU and OCUDU

In this scenario, the 1Finity Triple Band O-RU was the DUT in an interoperability test with OCUDU project’s Open DU. The test ran in an end-to-end setup to validate O-RAN multi-vendor interoperability. Based on O-RAN WG4 IOT and O-RAN TIFG E2E test specifications, a number of interoperability test cases were successfully validated. Among those was the successful implementation of IOT of CUSM planes with DU from the OCUDU project and 1Finity FDD O-RU.

This

  • Demonstrated alignment with WG4 interoperability test specifications and validated End-to-End integration readiness.
  • Generated practical insights on test procedure development, device configuration optimization, and automation-driven operational efficiency by using M-Plane management procedures.
  • Improved repeatability and scalability of interoperability validation workflows for future O-RAN deployments.

HCLTech rApps on OSC Non-RT/SMO with O1 Integration

The goal of this scenario was to demonstrate an advanced Energy Saving (ES) solution within the O-RAN architecture. The setup utilized a tandem of rApps: one for ES and the other for load prediction, operating on the OSC Non-RT RIC/SMO, which was integrated with the Viavi AI RSG emulator via the O1 interface.

This way the advantages of using predictive, ML-based methods in RAN management could be shown, while validating the use of the O1 interface for closed-loop automation and configuration management between the OSC Non-RT RIC and the VIAVI AI RSG.

The Results

The results presentations for all PlugFest venues of the O-RAN Global PlugFest Spring 2026 will, as always, be available on the PlugFest Virtual Showcase.

The scenarios tested at the i14y Lab will be found in the section for the Joint European PlugFest.
