Reflecting on our MWC24 Journey

At Mobile World Congress 2024, we were excited to announce the successful completion of three open RAN test campaigns, not least during the panel at Deutsche Telekom (watch recording).

We were able to welcome German Federal Minister Volker Wissing and later O-RAN Alliance Chair Alex Choi (see pictures below) to show them where our efforts stand for better badging and certification. And we could show and deepen our collaboration with other global labs, by being part of the panel at ITRI, showcasing the power of collective learning and global reach, reinforcing the notion that interoperability stems from the synergy of people and ecosystems coming together.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our partners who hosted us at their stands and contributed to our success: Capgemini Engineering, EANTC AG, Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI, highstreet technologies, Deutsche Telekom and Rohde & Schwarz. Together, we've demonstrated that disaggregation is not just a concept – it's a reality driving progress and innovation in open RAN.

Open RAN: Global MNO coalition to progress certification maturity for multivendor integration

This session shows how a global coalition of tier-1 operators picks up the challenge of multi-vendor open RAN integration to jointly define improved certification frameworks that will create value for the global operator community, building on the advancing the initial frameworks set up by O-RAN Alliance and Telecom Infra Project (TIP).

As part of this session, we will explore how to achieve better badging and certification for faster open RAN deployment, share learnings and improvements made to test plans at the i14y Lab according to operators’ deployment needs, in a panel with:

RIC TESTING FOR A SUSTAINABLE ECOSYSTEM

ONF / i14y Lab RIC test setup demo @ MWC24

The i14y Lab recently saw the completion of the first of two setups that are part of the ONF effort to build a collaborative, open environment for testing and evaluating x/rApp portability to different RIC/RAN platforms and their interplay.

The setup is a shared effort led by the ONF, which is also providing the Near-RT RIC, while we at the i14y Lab provide the lab and environment, and our associated partner Viavi contributes a RAN simulator.

Tietoevry, being responsible for system integration and operations, has shown a demo of the project on their stand at MWC 2024.
