ITRI and i14y Lab to collaborate on certification, testing, and integration

ITRI and the i14y Lab are excited to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing their collaboration intended to jointly accelerate market development in the field of Open RAN testing and certification. This marks a significant milestone in the progress of collaboration between global open labs, something they have been working on since MWC 24 in Barcelona.

ITRI and i14y Lab to collaborate on certification, testing, and integration

This partnership between the open labs will facilitate the sharing of critical testing results, foster deeper collaboration on RIC capabilities, and pave the way for many more groundbreaking advancements to be revealed soon at one of our industry events in autumn. It is borne by the shared the vision that open and neutral labs such as the i14y Lab and ITRI play an important role in realizing the promised advantages of disaggregated networks such as Open RAN. These labs offer an open, vendor-neutral test environment that gives all market participants freedom of access to test and integrate their components.

The promises of disaggregated networks for increased diversity, speed, and cost efficiency are an important contribution to existing digitalization strategies. Open standards and interfaces such as Open RAN play a central role in this endeavor. This great opportunity comes with challenges, as the different components must interact perfectly in an end-to-end connection. Testing and integration is therefore key to the success of Open RAN, and open labs are where all market participants can come to do that.

"We are committed to driving innovation and accelerating the deployment of open, flexible, and interoperable RAN solutions together.”

Andreas Gladisch, i14y Lab consortium lead

"ITRI is thrilled to formalize our partnership with i14y Lab through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to advancing Open RAN by exchanging vital testing results and deepening our work on the RIC front. We look forward to unveiling numerous innovative developments together in the near future. By joining forces, we aim to accelerate the creation of open, flexible, and interoperable RAN solutions that will shape the future of disaggregated telecommunication networks."

Maggie Chao, ITRI

Open labs offer network operators, system integrators, start-ups, and the academic world a platform to reduce costs for testing and integration, and minimize market entry barriers, even for smaller players. To do this, it is paramount that open labs collaborate and learn from each other.

That is why ITRI and the i14y Lab will exchange results and learnings in the areas of testing, validation, certification, and automation. They will also collaborate on issues such as the joint development of test plans and RIC testing.

Another aspect of the collaboration will of course be to bring the ecosystem closer together, offering more and better opportunities for the ecosystem to come to a common understanding that is the bedrock of a system based on open standards. In this, the partners will of course seek a coordinated collaboration with organizations such as the O-RAN Alliance and TIP.
